After arriving is Lisbon by Air France, we picked up our car and took the short driive to Sintra. We stayd at the very comfortable Penestra Sinstra Hotel. Unfortunately it was a bit chilly and we never got a chance to use the pool. We used the bar instead!

  • An early morning drive took me through various old areas of the surround towns.
  • By 7:00 we left for a drive to the centre of the old part of Sintra.
  • The Sintra Palace stands right in the middle of the town.
  • Great views of the city from the palace.

Sintra

Sintra is really part of the general Lisbon area. We choose this as the location for our first night as it meant to short drive after our two flights. The town is noted for the numerous 19th-centry architecture and has a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.

I was able to explore the city early in the morning, before anyone was up, but once the day started, we found Sintra to be congested with sightseers and it was next to impossible to find place to leave a car and explore.
