An town rich in history
About 35 km/40 minutes from Carovigno, in the Brindisi Province is the town of Fasano. There is a medieval section called "U'mbracchie" which translate to shade, because its narrow streets are so tight that sunlight rarely gets in. The chuches create an interesting skyline. The Churchof San Francesco d'Assisi has beautiful frescoes and an ornate alter. P{iazza Ciaia has cafes and flower stalls. Also a number of interesting beaches.

About 35 km/40 minutes from Carovigno, big harbour, fishing village feel. Around the town there is the feeling of money. Beaches to the north are private and prices. Stick to the fishing village.

A bit of a drive, 120 km/1:40 minutes, Nardo is said to be one of Ialy's secrets. It is a Lecce in minature with hardly any tourists. It is 30 km south of Lecce. A charming old town filled with palazzi, courtyards and churches. Focal point is Piazza Salandra, a small for complex open space. Said to be the best baroque squares in Southern Italy.
Located about56 km/1 hour from Carovigno, Noci's modern town surrounds the centro storico which is a cluster of bright and well kept small streets, interlinking small courtyards (Gnostre. It is described as an attractive place to wander through, but an experience that does not take that long. May not be worth the drive, but if in the area, a short stop. The Abbazia Madonna della Scale is outside the town.

Located about 60 km/1 1/4 hour Carovigno, the historic centre of Putlignano is a quiet photogenic maze of white streets. On the positive side it is a town untouched by mass tourism. The historic is described as labyrinthine. It is 40 km south of Bari. Be prepared to be lost. Piazza Plebiscito is the heart of the town. There are caves underneat the town.
The Monasterio di Santa Chiara (via S Chiara 22/26) is noted for its cloistered architecture (but not the traditional cloisters.).
It is a hour and 45 minutes from Carovigno to see this scenic town, on the cliffs, overlooking the Adriatic. Said to be on the of the prettiest seaside towns in Puglia. Castro Marina is on the coast.Up the hill is the old16th C walled town with a castle, Byzantine church and piazza with great views. Be ready, it is a 20 minute walk up the hill. The historic centre is small but charming.
