The "Balcony of the Sibillini"
Located within the Monti Sibillini National Park, San Ginesio is said to be a magical inland village in the Marche region. Despite the effects of the 2016 earthquake, still remain, the town retains its precious beauty. Walk the streets and travel through the Middle Ages and the Risorgimento.
The centre of the historic town is enclosed by the old castle walls. Enter by walking through the Porta Picena. Articles on the town note the trong authentic atmosphere of the town. In Piazza Gentili, where the “Giacomo Leopardi” Theatre and the Civic Tower stand, the earthquake is unfortunately still visible, to the extent that the area is still uninhabitable today. San Ginesio once held status as being the home to 100 churches. Many were damaged and many can not be used today.
In San Ginesio, the old medieval hospital stands on the right of the Porta Picena, also known as San Paolo. The hospital dates pre 14th C. It was built to accommodate pilgrims travelling to Loreto or Rome.

A 1498 miraculous event of a sacred image seating, which was repeated in 1703, drew pilgrims to San Liberatro. The church is surrounded by a portico that embraces the entire convent. Located 4 km from San Ginesio.
Abbazia di Santa Maria delle Macchie (Santa Maria Macularum) was a Roman Catholic Benedictine monastery in a rural hamlet of Macchie, a few kilometers from the town of San Ginesio. Restored in 1658. The crypt is the jewel of the site, with seven naves densely populated by columns and pilasters. The columns have some romanesque capitals with decorative plant and animal motifs, others are ancient Roman ionic capitals and marble shaft columns.
